Barbara S. Greene Bluebird Trail
Nestled along the North Augusta Greeneway, the Barbara S. Greene Bluebird Trail is a thriving habitat dedicated to supporting Eastern Bluebirds and other native cavity-nesting birds. Established in 2015 through a partnership between the South Carolina Bluebird Society and Friends of the Greeneway, the trail was created to honor Barbara S. Greene, North Augusta’s former First Lady, whose love for bluebirds inspired this lasting conservation effort.
What began with just 10 nestboxes and a single volunteer monitor has grown into an official certified bluebird habitat featuring 41 numbered nestboxes equipped with predator guards, carefully monitored by a dedicated team of volunteers led by Janis Krauss, President of the North Augusta Bluebird Society. Through consistent monitoring and annual reporting to the South Carolina Bluebird Society, the trail has helped hundreds of bluebirds successfully fledge over the years—contributing to the health of South Carolina’s bluebird population.
The Bluebird Trail is more than a conservation project—it’s a community effort, a learning opportunity, and a reminder of the important role we all play in protecting local wildlife. As you walk the Greeneway, keep an eye out for these special nestboxes and the bright blue flashes of the birds that call them home.
Come explore, learn, and celebrate one of North Augusta’s most unique natural treasures.
